When Pebble Beach returned to American ownership in 1999, a commemorative bench was placed overlooking the 18th hole where that acquisition was completed. It honors the owners’ intent to preserve the place for future generations. The restaurant took its name from that bench.
That’s the story Pebble Beach Resorts publishes on The Bench page—not folklore from a travel blog. It’s also why the view feels intentional: you’re sitting where the landscape, not the décor, does the talking.

The kitchen leans on wood roasting and open-flame technique with an eclectic, internationally inspired New American menu. The resort still highlights wines on tap (also listed as draft wines by the glass or half-liter carafe on the menu) plus draft beer. The cocktail program uses fresh juices, purées, and garnishes daily—worth a seat at the bar even if you’re not ordering a full meal.
Locals, Lodge guests, and anyone touring the Drive
It’s an easy stop after a 17-Mile Drive loop, between showings in the Lodge area, or when out-of-town family wants “the Pebble Beach view” without booking a tee time. Accessible tables and seating options are available. For a quieter patio seat with a dog, aim for late lunch or early Bench Bites.

Dogs must stay on a leash or in a kennel and are not permitted in any indoor portion of a restaurant. Service animals are allowed indoors and outdoors. The Bench’s patio (with fire tables) is the dog-friendly side.
Local tip. If the patio is full or the fog is sideways, have a backup plan—don’t assume an indoor table with a dog will work.

Clear evenings and bigger groups
Dinner on a clear evening, a patio table, or a larger group are the times I’d always call ahead. In my experience, lunch and Bench Bites are easier to walk into than dinner, but don’t count on it during big golf weeks or holiday weekends.

Pay at the gate—then get it back at the table
Day-guest admission on 17-Mile Drive is currently $12.50 per vehicle (sunrise to sunset; motorcycles prohibited). While dining at Lodge restaurants, present your gate receipt to your server. With a purchase of $35 or more, the gate fee is reimbursed. The resort FAQ notes this applies at Pebble Beach Resorts restaurants excluding the Pebble Beach Market.

I send clients and friends here when they want Lodge-area energy without a stiff dinner, especially lunch or Bench Bites on a clear afternoon, when the 18th is busy and the patio fire tables are lit.
